On February 11, 2025, Mr. Nicholas Wilson, S.E., M.M., a lecturer from the Management Study Program at Universitas Bunda Mulia (UBM) Serpong Campus, conducted a Community Service Program (PKM) in Room 311, Alfa Tower, Universitas Bunda Mulia Serpong Campus, Alam Sutera, Tangerang, Banten, in collaboration with SMA Kalam Kudus 3. The event, themed “The Myths About Doing Business: Debunking Fact from Fiction”, was attended by 11 participants and lasted approximately 60 minutes, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Mr. Nicholas was joined in this program by Stevani, an active student of the Management Study Program at UBM Serpong Campus.
This PKM activity aimed to educate students about various myths in the business world, such as the belief that starting a business requires a large amount of capital, that a good product will always sell, that entrepreneurs must always take significant risks, that failure marks the end of everything, and that once someone has a business, there is no need for further learning. In reality, many successful companies start with minimal capital. A product’s success depends on its quality and marketing strategies; successful entrepreneurs manage risks strategically rather than taking reckless chances; failure is a learning process, and an entrepreneur must continuously learn and adapt to industry developments.
In addition to debunking these myths, the event also emphasized the importance of leadership in running a business. A leader must be able to manage a team, develop the right strategies, and make data-driven decisions. After the presentation, the event continued with an interactive discussion and a Q&A session with students from grades 10, 11, and 12 of SMA Kalam Kudus 3. Through this activity, it is hoped that students will gain a more realistic understanding of the business world and avoid common mistakes caused by believing in misleading business myths.
