On Friday, February 28, 2025, the Hospitality & Tourism Student Association (HMP Hospar) of Universitas Bunda Mulia, Serpong Campus, held a seminar titled “Major Exploration: Charting Your Academic Journey.” This event is part of the HMP Hospar’s work program designed to assist students of the Hospitality & Tourism Study Program in exploring their specialization options. The main goal of the seminar is to provide a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of various specialization fields, as well as broaden participants’ perspectives on career opportunities available in those areas. Additionally, the event aims to help students make informed decisions about which specialization to choose from the three offered options: Leisure and Event Management, Culinary Arts and Innovation, and Executive Accommodation Management.
The event was led by the event chairperson, Aurelia Chindy, and involved several members of HMP Hospar for the 2024/2025 period as the committee, along with second-semester students from the Hospitality & Tourism Study Program at Universitas Bunda Mulia, Serpong Campus, as participants. The event was held onsite at The UBM Master Kitchen in the UBM Tower, Serpong Campus, and featured a series of events including a talk show and trial classes.
The event was energetically hosted by the MC, Crystalin Laurensia, who is the Secretary II of HMP Hospar. The event opened with the Indonesian national anthem, “Indonesia Raya,” followed by the UBM anthem, “Mars UBM,” after which remarks were delivered by Dr. Patricia Robin, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom., the Manager of Academic 1A at UBM Serpong Campus, and Ms. Roozana Maria Ritonga, BBA., M.Par., the faculty advisor for HMP Hospar Serpong.
The event then continued with a talk show session led by Richard Volta as the moderator. The session began with the introduction of the profiles of the three speakers: Yocelyn Setiawan the speaker for the Leisure and Event Management specialization, Nabila Kuswayan the speaker for Executive Accommodation Management, and Vincent Steven the speaker for Culinary Arts and Innovation. Following the introductions, the moderator invited the speakers to sit at the front and first present the material related to their respective specializations. The speakers enthusiastically and informatively explained their fields and answered various questions posed by the moderator. In addition, participants were given the opportunity to ask questions directly to the speakers, which undoubtedly enriched their experience and broadened their knowledge, helping them to better understand the material and receive answers to their inquiries.
After the talk show session, the event continued with the trial class session. Under the guidance of the PIC for each specialization, participants moved to the designated rooms based on the trial class they had chosen, where the speakers would introduce relevant materials related to their specializations. In the Culinary Arts and Innovation trial class session, participants attended a cooking trial class held at The UBM Master Kitchen. The selected menu was Rissole ala Crema di Funghi con Pollo. The participants were explained various cooking techniques and were invited to practice them directly in front of the class. Not only that, but participants also had the opportunity to taste the food they had prepared. During this session, they were also given the chance to ask questions directly to the speakers regarding the related specialization.
In the Executive Accommodation Management specialization trial class session, the activity took place in the front office simulation lab. Participants were introduced to the opera system, reservation processes, guest handling, and complaint handling. The speakers, along with the PIC, guided the participants through roleplay exercises, allowing them to practice and learn these skills firsthand. Additionally, the session included a Q&A segment, where participants had the opportunity to ask questions about the Executive Accommodation Management specialization to both the speakers and the PIC.
On the other hand, the Leisure and Event Management specialization held their trial class session in room 1101 at UBM Tower. During this session, participants were taught about tour packages. They were guided through the process of creating a tour package, such as planning a tour to the Jakarta area, including the calculations involved in pricing. In addition to learning about tour packages, participants also gained knowledge about guiding. Beyond the material presentation, participants were invited to engage in roleplay exercises to practice proper and effective guiding techniques. Similar to other specialization trial classes, this session also included a Q&A segment, allowing participants to ask questions related to Leisure and Event Management to both the speakers and the PIC.
The event then continued with the presentation of Tokens of Appreciation by Ms. Roozana Maria Ritonga, BBA., M.Par., to each speaker as a token of gratitude. The event concluded with a group photo session involving all participants, the committee, faculty members, and the speakers. The MC then delivered a closing remark, marking the end of the Major Exploration seminar.
In line with the implementation of this event, HMP Hospar hopes that this activity will benefit all students of the Hospitality & Tourism Study Program at the Serpong Campus, particularly second-semester students, by assisting them in choosing their specialization. We hope that through this series of seminar events, students will gain a clearer understanding of the available specialization options, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding the specialization they will choose.
