Jakarta-Thursday (5/11), the management of the Semiotics Journal of the Communication Science Department at Bunda Mulia University (UBM) held a training titled “Metadata Open Journal System”. The training, which collaborated with speaker R. Arief Firmansyah, an agroindustry lecturer at Trunojoyo University who is also the Managing Editor of the Agrointek Journal, was attended by dozens of lecturers from the Communication Science Department at UBM.
“This training is important so that the Semiotics Journal can be indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), and the journal’s accreditation can increase to the Science and Technology Index (SINTA),” said the Editor in Chief of the Semiotics Journal, Teguh H.R.
He added that the editors of the Semiotics Journal must have a better understanding of coding and metadata in the Open Journal Systems (OJS). For information, OJS is a system developed to manage scientific journals that are integrated in Indonesia. OJS allows journal managers to migrate from offline management systems to online systems. Starting from the submission of text by authors, the reviewing process, tracking, until it is ready to be published in a journal.
The hope is that with this training, the journal management can carry out its duties in accordance with the journal standards in Indonesia. That is why this training is important to be held. Later on, there will be further training in July 2023 regarding SINTA re-accreditation, which is already the target of the Semiotics management.
During the training, Arief stated that the Semiotics Journal could still be greatly improved in terms of content quality.
“If the quality is improved, the performance, responsiveness, and other aspects are improved, then the Semiotics Journal can increase its SINTA accreditation from the current SINTA-4 to at least SINTA-3,” said Arief.
