In facing the challenges of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and the rapid development of information technology, the world of education is required to continue to adapt, including in terms of learning approaches in higher education. One approach that is increasingly relevant and strategic is Research-Based Education (RBE), a learning model that emphasizes integration between teaching and learning activities and research activities. Through RBE, lecturers are not only teachers, but also facilitators who guide students in the process of critical thinking, problem solving, and developing ideas through research. Thus, students not only understand the theory, but also practice applying knowledge scientifically and systematically.
To support this transformation, on Thursday, April 24, 2025, the Faculty of Technology and Design held a Lecturer Workshop on Research-Based Education as a forum for increasing the capacity of lecturers in designing and implementing research-based learning strategies. This activity was carried out in a hybrid manner, on the Ancol campus onsite in classroom 401 with live streaming to the Serpong campus online. Attended by 46 participants, lecturers and heads of study programs: Information Systems, Informatics, Visual Communication Design, Data Science, Interactive Design, and Artificial Intelligence, both UBM Ancol campus and UBM Serpong campus.
The RBE workshop speaker was Prof. Achmad Nizar Hidayanto, S.Kom., M.Kom. who is a Professor in Information Systems at the Faculty of Computer Science (Fasilkom) University of Indonesia (UI).
