On Monday, 9th December 2024, the Hospitality and Tourism study program at Bunda Mulia University, Serpong Campus, carried out Soft Skill Seminar with the theme “Stimulating Your Critical Thinking” which was held at the UBM Master Kitchen, 10th floor of UBM Tower. This seminar started at 10.00 to 11.45 WIB and was attended by the internal students of Hospitality and Tourism Student Association (HMP Hospar) Serpong Campus with a total of 32 students.
This seminar fully involved members of HMP Hospar 1st semester students as the committees. This Soft Skill Seminar was opened with opening remarks by Feronika Berutu, S.ST.Par., M.Par.. Then continued with the presentation of the main topic by the expert, Roozana Maria Ritonga, B.B.A., PGD, M.Par.. Both of them are the lecturers of the Hospitality and Tourism study program while also the coaches of HMP Hospar Serpong Campus.
The members of HMP Hospar Serpong Campus that participated in the seminar were very enthusiastic about the topic that discussed about “Critical Thinking”. For them, “Critical Thinking” is an important learning topic that must be applied, not only in the university but also in daily life. In accordance with the theme, “Stimulating Your Critical Thinking”, students were expected to be able to filter all the information they received and carry out analysis to determine which information is correct and incorrect, and also what action should be taken in that particular situation.
After the presentation had finished, the next session was “Quiz time”. This session was to test the students’ level of understanding of the material that had been delivered. All students answered the quiz very well and the top three students with the highest score were given prizes as a form of appreciation.
Furthermore, a “QnA” or Question and Answer session was also held for students who had questions to deepen their knowledge of “Critical Thinking” in daily life. Many students were excited in asking questions, especially about situations or problems related to their daily lives. This action showed that the materials are delivered to the students very accurately.
The next session was the handing over of a ‘Token Of Appreciation’ to the expert, Roozana Maria Ritonga, by the President of HMP Hospar 2024/2025 period, Felicia Tania Chen. After that, Felicia Tania Chen also delivered a short speech as the closing remarks for the Soft Skill Seminar. As the final closing, all the participants and committee members held a documentation session by taking pictures together.
“Critical Thinking” is an important skill that must be sharpened and applied every day on a daily basis. By conducting this seminar, it was hoped that the students would be able to evaluate all the opinions or information they received and also understand the situation to figure out the best solution to be carried out.
