Visual Communication Design (VCD) is a study program focused on using visual elements to convey specific messages.
That’s why it’s called “Design” and “Communication Visual.”
In this program, you’ll learn how to create design concepts, understand the methods used in design, and develop various skills in analyzing, designing, and communicating messages through visual language.
But even though VCD is closely related to drawing skills, you don’t have to be great at drawing from the start!
This is actually one of the most common questions asked by students before entering VCD: “Do I need to be good at drawing to study VCD?”
The answer is NO!
In fact, you’ll start learning these skills from the first semester, through introductory courses in 2D design, drawing, and visual language.
You can check out the list of Visual Communication Design courses from the first semester to the final semester here.
Now, what should you prepare before your first day of studying VCD? Read on below!
As a VCD student, there are a few things you need to prepare. Many of these tools will be used from the start of your studies until the very last semester.
Here’s what you need to get ready:
You’ll use pencils and drawing pens for assignments in various courses. It’s a good idea to prepare pencils and drawing pens in different thicknesses, from H to 8B.
As a VCD student, you’ll need to create precise work. That’s why tools like rulers and cutting pads will be really useful for completing your assignments neatly.
As a VCD student, you’ll definitely learn about colors. That’s why colored pencils and paints (watercolor, poster paint, acrylic paint) are essential tools for your work.
Besides learning traditional drawing methods, you’ll also learn digital design. Therefore, it’s highly recommended that you have a laptop with strong specifications to run design software. The recommended minimum specs are:
In some courses, you’ll need a camera. However, this doesn’t mean you must have your own camera.
Universitas Bunda Mulia provides a Digital Media Studio and a green screen lab, equipped with various cameras that students can use. So, don’t worry if you don’t have a camera.
Universitas Bunda Mulia offers a Bachelor’s program in Visual Communication Design, which has been established since 2003.
