on 9 November 2024 The Hospitality and Tourism Study Program at Universitas Bunda Mulia conducted a Community Service Activity (Abdimas) located at the UBM Ancol campus, specifically in the Pastry Lab. This activity primarily aimed to strengthen cultural ties between Indonesian and Chinese cultures through traditional dessert dishes. It presented an opportunity for both cultures to exchange culinary knowledge.
During this event, participants from the Indonesian-Chinese community were taught how to make traditional Indonesian desserts, Cenil and Cendol. Each participant prepared the desserts individually to ensure they could replicate the process on their own.
The activity began with a demonstration of how to make Cenil, followed by a demonstration of Cendol. Once both desserts were demonstrated, participants from the Indonesian-Chinese community were invited to make the dishes individually. The participants were highly enthusiastic during the preparation, especially about Cenil due to its unique variety of colors.
In addition to the hands-on training, participants were encouraged to ask questions about the world of pastry, particularly regarding traditional Indonesian specialties. The Indonesian-Chinese community participants actively engaged by asking questions, such as comparing Cenil to the Chinese dessert Tang Yuan. While similar, they noted that the primary difference lies in the broth.
