Community service activities are one of the missions of higher education institutions to provide benefits to society. This activity is also an application of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, which includes Education, Research, and Community Service. This community service aims to contribute applied knowledge to society based on the theoretical knowledge taught at the university. The materials presented in this activity will be an implementation of the courses offered in the Management Study Program.
With this background, a community service activity titled “Developing a Business Model Canvas to Build Superior Business Strategies” will be held, involving students from SMK Tarakanita South Jakarta at Bunda Mulia University. The goal of the activity is to provide knowledge on one of the management sciences that will be studied by senior high school graduates who later become students at Bunda Mulia University.
In the theory of building strategic businesses, one fundamental application is the business model canvas. According to Osterwalder and Pigneur (2012), the business model canvas is a simple tool for developing business models. The business model fundamentally identifies nine key elements in starting a business, including: customer segments, value propositions, distribution channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partners, and cost structure.
This event was held at Bunda Mulia University, Serpong Campus, with the speakers Mr. Frananda SJ, S.E., M.B.A., along with student Patricia Beatrice, on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 WIB, with a total of 15 participants from SMK Tarakanita South Jakarta. The Community Service event with the theme “The Role of the Business Model Canvas in Building Strategic Businesses” went well and was interactive. Going forward, all participants will be able to apply the Business Model Canvas theory as a fundamental strategy in building a business.
